It’s one of the most common questions we get: should I go for a walk-in or a built-in wardrobe? Both can be beautiful and highly functional — the right choice comes down to your space, how you dress, and your budget.
Built-in wardrobes
A built-in robe sits flush against a wall with sliding or hinged doors. It’s the most space-efficient option and ideal when floor area is at a premium.
- Maximises a bedroom’s usable floor space
- Sliding or mirrored doors suit tighter rooms
- Generally a lower starting investment than a walk-in
Walk-in wardrobes
A walk-in is a dedicated dressing room — a touch of everyday luxury. It needs more floor area but rewards you with open, boutique-style storage.
- Open, browsable storage with room to dress
- Display space for shoes, bags and accessories
- A strong feature for resale in higher-end homes
How to decide
Ask yourself three questions:
- How much floor space can I give up? A walk-in typically needs at least 1.5m × 2m to feel comfortable.
- How do I like to get ready? If you enjoy a calm, dedicated dressing routine, a walk-in pays off daily.
- What’s my budget? A well-designed built-in can deliver most of the function for less.
You don’t always have to choose
In many homes we design a hybrid — a compact walk-through robe, or a built-in with walk-in-style internals. Tailored internals matter far more than the label.
The best way to decide is to plan it against your actual room. Book a free measure and we’ll map out both options for your space.
